Learning to Ask for Help
Every one of us has issues in life but what makes the difference is the magnitude of our issues. Someone’s issue maybe be a piece of cake to you but to them, it’s as though their entire world is falling apart. It’s the same way the problems you feel are too huge for you will seem so little to another person. That’s just as it is. As much as we all have issues, you never know the weight of what someone else is carrying and that’s why we are advised to be kind to people no matter what because your kindness can go a long way to restoring their hope that things will get better.
We have all needed things from people in one way or the other and could be anything. It could be money , help in taking care of your kid or family member, it could be their network of people or anything else which might be of help to you in that moment. As much as it’s human to ask for help from people, not all of us have it in us to ask for help and I’m one of those people. Aside my parents, I actually don’t ask anyone for anything and even with my parents, it’s has to get very critical before I reach out to them.
As someone who is hyper independent and doesn’t want to feel like a burden to others, it’s really tiring out there because even when you wish to actually seek for help, no one believes you need the help you’re asking for because you don’t look like you need it. Sometimes I wonder if we are supposed to look like our problems before seeking for help. I have friends and family reaching out to me for help from time to time and I’m more than happy to offer help to them but when I’m the one in need of help, I instantly start feeling I’ll be a burden and I need to figure it out on my own. Most of the time , I do figure it out but honestly, I could have saved myself the stress by just asking for help.
This had been my life for so long until I realized there’s no reward for suffering. It’s totally okay to ask for help but remember it’s not everyone you ask for help from before they start broadcasting that they picked you up from the gutters and made you who you are later on. There’s always those people in your life who are and will be there for you no matter what and honestly, there’s always your family in that list. No need to beat yourself up. Sometimes you do all you can but things don’t work out, that’s your queue to ask for help because you’re not meant to carry every burden alone. Allow yourself to receive help without feeling guilty or bad. You need it, you deserve it and you’re worthy of it. The worst they can say is no.
