The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 418: Celebrating Independence Day with beer ๐ป๐
Celebrating Independence Day with beer
Today is July 5 and in Venezuela, on a day like today, but in 1811, our ancestors dared to imagine a free and sovereign country, that is why today we celebrate the 214th anniversary of our independence.
In Venezuela we are taught that we must respect patriotic dates, we are also taught to be proud of the patriotic symbols such as the flower and the national tree, the anthem, the flag, our Creole food, our music. Symbols and signs for which we should feel proud and that wherever we are, they represent us.
But Venezuelans know that there are things that are as Venezuelan as the arepa or our flag. Proof of this are our miss, our athletes, our chocolate and some brands, such as Savoy, La Polar, and very specifically our Polarcita beer.
Ever since I was a little girl, I've seen this brand of beer in my fridge at home. My grandfather drank it, my father drank it and I drink it now, as if it were part of a silent legacy full of flavor. In fact, when my brother returned to our country after 7 years abroad, he said that among the things he longed to savor, after the arepa de cazรณn and the sancocho made by my mother, was a cold polarcita negra.
The polar negra or polarcita, also called Negrita, is a beer created in 1941, pilsen type, with intense flavor, refreshing and with a delicious 4.8ยฐ of alcohol. It has a soft foam, an intense golden color and a light smell of hops. With ingredients such as water, malt, hops, yeast and cereals such as corn, Polar is an easy-to-digest beer and is all you need to be with friends.
That is why today, I opened my fridge and took out the most Venezuelan beer there is to celebrate this important date for Venezuelans and remember that today, more than ever, we must keep in mind and understand that the sovereignty of a country is defended and that it is a task that cannot be left for tomorrow.
