A refreshing beer to chase away the heat

These past few days we've been touring some towns in the state of Sucre, Venezuela. One of our plans was to have lunch at a well-known place in Cumanacoa called El Hato, which specializes in traditional Venezuelan cuisine.

En estos días hacíamos un recorrido por algunos pueblos del estado Sucre, en Venezuela. Una de las ideas que teníamos era almorzar en un lugar conocido de Cumanacoa, llamado El Hato, que se especializa en comida criolla venezolana.

After exploring those towns, we decided it was time for lunch, but first we needed some beers, as we were quite thirsty. We asked which beers were cold and were told Zulia, so we ordered a round while looking at the menu.

Zulia beer is one of the oldest and most popular beers in Venezuela, consumed since 1925 and marketed by Cervecería Regional. It's iconic for its green bottle and eagle logo. This beer comes in two formats: a 295ml can and a 222ml returnable bottle. The can costs $1.20 and the bottle $0.80.

Luego de recorrer esos pueblos, decidimos que era hora de almorzar, pero antes debíamos tomarnos unas cervezas, ya que teníamos mucha sed. Preguntamos qué cervezas estaban frías y nos dijeron que la Zulia, así que pedimos una ronda mientras veíamos el menú.

This beer is popular not only for its balanced flavor but also for its 4.5% alcohol content, which makes it easy to drink and pleasant on the palate. Personally, although I'm not a beer expert, after Polar Negra and Regional Pilsen, of the commercial beers made in Venezuela, this is my favorite. I feel it's not a strong, potent beer, perfect for hot days, because you can drink up to four and it won't hurt.

Esta cerveza es popular no solo por su sabor equilibrado, sino también por su 4.5% de alcohol, lo que la hace fácil de beber y agradable al paladar. Personalmente, aunque nos soy una experta en cervezas, después de Polar Negra y Regional Pilsen, de las cervezas comerciales venezolanas, esta es mi favorita. Me parece una cerveza suave y ligera, perfecta para los días calurosos, ya que puedes tomar hasta cuatro sin problema.

I forgot to mention that this is a light yellow beer with small bubbles and a subtle sweetness. I feel that Venezuelans like smooth beers, without much bitterness, which is perhaps why this is one of the most popular beers in the country's beer market.

Olvidé mencionar que esta es una cerveza de color amarillo claro con burbujas pequeñas y un dulzor sutil. Creo que a los venezolanos les gustan las cervezas suaves, sin mucho amargor, lo que quizás explique por qué es una de las más populares en el mercado cervecero del país.
