The Hilltop Fortress

Amer Fort (also known as Amber Fort), one of India’s largest architectural masterpieces. The ancient monument has been towering over the Maota Lake for centuries.

But have you ever wondered how such projects as Amer Fort could be constructed hundreds of years ago with only simple hand tools and human effort? If you take a closer look at this image, you will notice that the fortress is built right into the hillside. Therefore, it is remarkable how such a construction could resist the pressures of erosion and powerful earthquakes. It is hard to believe how medieval builders managed to develop so many architectural structures made of various materials and assemble massive buildings without modern equipment and technology. It is fascinating how such ancient constructions could resist the test of time and different kinds of weather. Clearly, the knowledge and skills of ancient builders and architects were much more advanced than one can imagine.

Amer Fort was built in 1592 under the ruler Raja Man Singh I. His son and successor, Mirza Raja Jai Singh, significantly contributed to the development and expansion of the complex. The construction process took a long time because of the scale of the project, and it was finished after almost 100 years of hard work. So, in order to create such a marvelous architectural masterpiece, master constructors had to invest a lot of time and effort.
