Lettuce weeding process now completed; Begining Rice planting
Hello Hive
The first weeding exercise on our lettuce farm is now completed as this was one of the major task we did yesterday. Using small hoes we pulled up the soil around the lettuce uprotting the tiny grasses that were coming up.
Unlike with planting of grains vegetables farms requires that you carry out the weeding by hand. Veggies are fragile and succumb to herbicides easilly, besides it is not advisable to add keep adding herbicides to the food we eat. Vegetables are eating directly compared to grains that may take a while to grow or brown within some pods, these are the reasons why we prefer to do carry out manual weeding for vegetables compared to other food crops we farm.
Even within the vegetables farm it is obviously noticeable that some parts are growing well and faster than the other. This is not because a part of the farm is either more fertile than the other, this variety is as a result of the different in moisture content.
Some parts of the farm contains and holds more water than some other parts of the farm, the parts that are enjoying more moisture are the ones that are growing at a more faster rate
You can see how much these sections are flourishing compared to the other sections of the farm.
Moving on from them we were able to also disperse some of the rice grains on the nursery bed that was prepared yesterday.
These grains will take at least 6 weeks in the nursery before we move them, transplanting them into thesame field where we have planted these lettuce.
This is one of the ways that we maximize the land to plant varieties of crops as there are limited farming space here. This were the task/work we have engaged in at the farm yesterday and today is another day. Whenever farming seasons comes fully like this, there is hardly a day of no work in the farm as everyday comes in with one thing or two for us to do.
