Harvest is Here, First sets of fully Matured corn
Hello Hive
It's being a pleasant day at the farm yesterday after some long hours of planting rice and doing other tasks, we decided to check on our corn to see if they are ready for harvest. It was so funny to see that everyone in the farm was highly expectant of how soon these corns can get ready for consumption.
The major reason for this is not far fetch as these corns often serve as the first line of food people often eat from a new farming season. You can look at it this way. After every harvest, the Staples/grains are often stored up and if they are not in abundance the prices of foods often goes a little higher.
Hence as soon as the rains begin people tend to plant new crops as soon as possible. The first sets of new crops are usually this corn and as soon as they get matured for eating, a lot of people take this as food. They roast or boil the harvested corns and eat them as food.
Now everyone has been highly expectant of when to eat the first corn harvest for this year, because other states within the country have started harvesting and even bringing their corns to us for sale. The rainfall was earlier for those states and by this time they have been engaging in their own harvest from neighboring towns and villages, people have been buying and eating those corns already. These are sold off at a bit that's a bit high as transportation cost and other logistics are often added. This is why we are all hungry to plant and harvest our very own corn here
This first sets of corn are what we often harvests, boil or roast immediately as foods. They are not often stored because corn can be planted at least twice before the year runs out, more over there is usually not much rainfall at this time for corns to be processed and dried properly for storage. The second planted corns within the year which often grows up towards the latter end of the year are often the ones that we process and store.
The corns must be proper dried a d free of any moisture content before they can be stored and with the low level of sunshine and high level of rain now, these first sets of harvested corns cannot be properly processed and stored, hence they are eating fresh right after harvest from the farm.
