Job security in our current society

We live in interesting times. Everything is changing and at a fast pace. That also includes the job sector.

People are losing their jobs more these days. The reason is obvious. Jobs are changing. With the introduction of AI, a lot of jobs have evolved.

Automation is now the being incorporated in almost every job. The logic is simple. Most employers no longer see the need to have a large amount of staff who have limitations when an AI or robot can do that same work faster and more efficiently. Most times, AI is capable to do the work of multiple employees combined. It never gets tired.

For the employer (whose major aim is saving cost and maximizing profit), this is a no brainer. They'll definitely incorporate more automation to jobs. Granted, this might result in significant cost reduction for business and bigger results, but the repercussion is that people keep losing their jobs. We have heard about so many cases where big companies, especially the tech companies lay off staff regularly just because they have found a way to automate things.

This is just the effect of AI. However, there is a category of jobs where it would be hard to replace humans. It's the jobs that require physical labour. The plumbers, the electricians and the likes are probably safer. AI can't do much in these areas. AI can't give manual support. AI may know much about plumbing for example, but it can't do plumbing.

This is my kind of job. I do a job that requires physical input. That's why I think my job would still exist in the next ten years. I'm not worried about that. I agree that AI can help me up skill and get better at my craft, but that's as far as it can do. Upskilling is better because it improves efficiency, it helps you do things better.

We are in an age where a lot of jobs are being replaced, and people are being forced to change jobs or careers. There are now so many people competing for fewer jobs. That's why it's important to keep getting better and to gather skills in sectors that won't be easily replaced by AI.
