Learning to Be a Better Parent: My Experience at the Parent Effectiveness Service Training
Being a parent is not easy. Every day, we learn something new from our children. That's why I felt grateful when I was invited to attend the Parent Effectiveness Service (PES) Training organized by the daycare teachers in our municipality.
I honestly didn't expect to be one of the participants. In our school, only 10 parents were invited. Six of them were school officers, while the remaining four, including me, were personally chosen by Ryzen's teacher, Ma'am Irma. I felt thankful for the opportunity because I knew I could learn something valuable from the event.
The training was held at the mall, where parents from different barangays and schools gathered. It was nice to see so many mothers and fathers attending, with every daycare center sending their own representatives.
The program started with a prayer, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. After that, the barangay captain gave his opening remarks and welcomed everyone.
Then our first speaker was a nurse who talked about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy living for children. She explained how the food we serve today can affect our children's growth and future health.
And she even made it even more fun. She organized a group activity. We were divided into groups of four, and our task was to write down everything we usually serve our children from breakfast until dinner.
Everyone actively participated, and we had a great time discussing our answers. When it was our turn to present, one of the moms in our group became so nervous that even the nurse noticed it. We all laughed because it was really obvious, but thankfully, we managed to present our work well in the end.
There was also a prize for the group with the best presentation and the one that the audience could relate to the most. The winning group shared something that almost every parent understood.
They talked about how children today are often picky eaters. Even if we prepare healthy meals, many kids refuse to eat them. Sometimes, parents have to think of creative ways to encourage their children to eat or, on some occasions, settle for less healthy food just to make sure they don't stay hungry. Almost every mommy agreed because we have all experienced that challenge.
The next speaker was another nurse. She discussed the importance of maintaining a safe and clean environment for our children.
She also prepared another activity where parents wrote down common problems they experience with their kids and shared possible solutions.
I found this part very helpful because many of the situations were exactly what I experience at home.
Some parents talked about children spending too much time on gadgets. Others mentioned kids refusing to take afternoon naps or not wanting to take a bath. Listening to everyone's ideas and practical solutions made me realize that many parents go through the same struggles, and we can all learn from one another.
I truly enjoyed the training and learned many useful parenting tips that I can apply at home.
Sadly, I wasn't able to finish the entire program coz my hubby messaged me that our little Aiden was already crying because he wanted me, so I had to leave earlier than expected.
Although I missed the remaining sessions, I'm still thankful that I was able to attend. Parenting doesn't come with a manual, but learning together with other parents and professionals can make the journey a little easier.
I'm hoping there will be another training like this in the future because there's always something new to learn when it comes to raising our children.
Thank you for reading...
Until my next experience...
