The first time I heard about coffee with butter was from Dave Asprey. It wasn’t called butter coffee but a bulletproof coffee and was popular among people who eat a ketogenic diet and are into optimizing their productivity. It was a hype at one point a few years ago but now, I am starting to see fast coffee chains trying to bring it into the masses. There’s definitely a difference between the Dave Asprey version vs the fast coffee chain made. A lot of my friends who drink this type of coffee are only telling me that it can work for grass-fed butter but obviously if the selling price is below $1, say goodbye to grass-fed butter.

I found the spot that sells butter coffee when I was on my morning jog. This fast coffee chain was putting up a banner that said a promo for their butter coffee and their dessert. I was definitely intrigued! So as soon as I got back home and waited until the coffee place opened, I tried it.

As you can see above, they are 400ml of butter coffee. It was pretty creamy and I could see a buttery mixture floating on top. The coffee wasn’t that noticeable as it was mixed with milk. Certainly, it isn’t really the ideal version of bulletproof coffee but for the price, it was definitely worth trying and I can see why the coffee wasn’t that noticeable. As bulletproof coffee has a lot of claims that itwill perk us up and make us get things done, it wasn’t the feeling I get from that coffee. It was simply like drinking creamy, oily coffee. I definitely prefer my own version of butter coffee but it’s nice that there's a cheaper version of this butter coffee.
