My First Time Trying A Bagel
After 24 years, I finally tasted a bagel!
For Indonesian, the word bagel can be associated with Bagelen which is a crispy toasted bread with butter/margarine. But they are two different types of bread, as bagel is a bread originating from Jewish community in Poland with a bit of a chewy texture.
I have heard of bagels a lot from movies, stories, and friends yet unfortunately, in Indonesia bagels are not quite common. When it is compared to croissant and baguette, these are more common bread here and are getting more popular too. And bagels, is the bread that’s recently gaining more and more popularity in the country.
Since today I managed to stay awake until 10 AM, I browsed some places in the city that had bagels. I found some results with bagelen instead of bagel. But, there was this one place called sangmane coffee. It’s a place that sells some coffee and bagels for their specialty.
Not only regular bagels, the place also sells bagels with toppings such as pork and non-pork bagels. Strangely though, it seems the place is Mexican themed because their bagels have Mexican style chicken brine spices and even queso red cheese. As in the packaging, it said Papito’s which could mean little daddy's. So, this Mexican themed bagel is definitely a quite peculiar mix.
I got two regular bagels with lots of black sesame seeds. When it arrived, the bagel was warm, comforting, and made me want to take bites. The smell just made me want to get more bagels and drown in a sea of bagels. It was so good that I regretted only buying two. So, in order to save these precious bagels, I only ate one of the bagels.
The first bite was heavenly. The bagel has a soft but chewy texture. The outer part was well-done and the color was appetizing. From the way it’s done, I am convinced that it was definitely home-baked bagels. I can literally eat these bagels everyday for breakfast. So, perhaps, next time I should get more bagels. I did not regret one bit to stay up more just to get this precious bagel.
