The town of Sebauh,Bintulu
Good afternoon, my wonderful friends.. How are you? I am going to introduce you to a place that maybe a lot of people have not even heard of. This is the town of Sebauh, Bintulu. This is the first time that I have visited this town too.
This town still has a lot of traditional architecture that still exists today. A lot of the buildings now are modernized, and many have already been redesigned. The different architectural designs here can tell a person which era these buildings were built.
One of the most unique things about this place is that there is a temple that used to be on an island, and to get there, you had to use a boat to get to the other side. But after the government recently built a connection bridge to this other side, you just drive there. I wanted to check out this place too. But I was quite hungry, so I was searching for a place to eat lunch.
SEBAUH, BINTULU
SARAWAK
This shop is called Ting Seng Bang
This is the owner's name. In the traditional Chinese context in Sarawak, many of the older shops tend to be named after the owner, maybe in the hopes that one day, this shop gets inherited by the next generation. This signboard is still wooden, which is different from the modern plastic and metal signboards that exist today. Why is no lighting needed?
The reason is very simple.
This town has a population of around 30k, so these are shops that do not need to open late into the day. By around 2 p.m. most of the shops here are closed.
I went to a more modern shop to eat because the shop that I visited in the last couple of pictures was closing for the day. I only ordered a drink there.
Lots of fish in this shop. Goldfish. So many different types.
My favourite type of fish.
Ordered a plate of Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah.
What is so special about this dish is that it comes with curry that you can pour onto the rice to add some flavour to the rice.
Next, the chicken is fried with a special spice that makes the chicken much crispier than it should be.
Overall, at least 9/10 for the dish.
A bowl of meatballs with noodles. My wife ordered this. The size of the meatballs is huge. Have you seen such huge meatballs?
Ordered a cup of cold coffee with jelly inside. This is a special cup of coffee. Have you tried this type of coffee before?
After eating lunch, it was time for me to head to this legendary temple. This temple was in the middle of an island till land slowly came to it.
These roads used to be part of the river but have been filled. So, no more ferrying from the other side.
After visiting the temple, I drove around a bit to check out the other parts of the city. I was also searching for an area to fly my drone.
Some of the wall paintings of famous places in Sarawak.
Behold, the painting of NIAH CAVE. This cave is located in Sarawak and at the moment has the UNESCO world heritage site status. This is one of the oldest cave where humans lived dating to at least 50,000 to as early as 65,000 years ago. There are some cave drawings painted by early man. More about this place next itme.
The painting of the main cave complex. One of the largest in the entire world at a span of 350 metres in the cave opening, creating a natural shelter from predators. Some of the bones found here have now been displayed at a musuem in Kuching, Sarawak .
Thank you for reading this post.
Have a wonderful day ahead.
