A Westward Journey

The fastest way to get the ferry ticket if you're a foot passenger is to use the machine, so I'm always mystified by the long line at the ticket booth with a human agent. The machines are usually empty. Passengers would rather spend 10 minutes in line than a couple getting the ticket from the machine. Mind you, there's a lot of visitors from abroad who may not fully understand the vending interface. Still, I'm always surprised by their behavior.

I like the massive structures of the port. All that work! All that energy! All that effort! Imagine the logistics of bringing ships in and out of the terminal. I stand in awe of how smoothly it all seems to work.

On the columns, beneath the water, seaweeds undulate and flow like aquamarine ghosts.

I found some great schematics of the ship.

The salish sea!

I like seeing other ferries in the distance. I get a feeling a comradeship. I don't know who's on that ship or where they are going, but here we all are in this great wide ocean. I especially like when the vessels blow blow their horn and our own returns the hello.

Safety first!

We're in the middle of a summer heatwave but a cool breeze blew from the ocean. That's when I knew I had made a mistake by not bringing a jacket.

Travel in some ways is about encountering new spaces. It's the the joy of processing novel geometrical information and salient shapes with their own story. It's exploration and expansion of spatial consciousness. I'm just glad we now have the means to capture it in all its splendor.
