the nightwalker as a tourguide : November 16 2025

friends from singapore visited tokyo for a week. and they decided to meet us all up for a day of catching up. housemate g and i initially thought that only the five us with two of them and a bouncing Hive account@appleeatingapple will meet, so we decided on a closer venue. marunouchi, the perfect posh place between our homes. here is one bouncing apple doing what tourists do. those leaves looked too gorgeous not to snap pictures of.

the initial plan was lunch at a restaurant in this building, at a seafood restaurant. to our surprise, Hive account@wittyzell and two others were also there forming a big pack of 8. all of them i knew personally so i was fine with the surprise. but the planned seafood resto could not take us all in, good thing we made no reservations. and some people in this group of 8 were not fond of seafood. we scrambled for a new resto.

the new location was in this building just a few meters away. still in the posh area, the interior clearly reflected the elegance upheld. it looked like a playground for the old and classic rich people of tokyo.

they had several choices in here as well, they also had steak. but our tourist friends just had an all you can eat buffet at an a5 wagyu steakhouse last night. Hive account@appleeatingapple will probably share more about this experience.

we had tempura! this bowl had 2 shrimps, a maitake mushroom, squid, eggplant, select vegetable ball over rice. you could the pride they had for this shop's taste. i had one of the best times i had with tempura.

looking back though, we avoided the seafood place just to end up in another mainly seafood place. well at least there were vegies in it.

back outside, we decided to have a bit of a stroll while finding a coffee shop for some chat time. these leaves were again prompting me to take some pictures.

the next destination was in this mall with this huge decorations for disney things. they also had a pop up store just beside it.

at one of the building's balcony, we found this great view of the tokyo station. this is my first time taking a picture of it from up high. it is just so lovely to look at. i could gaze at this view for hours. but my friends were all getting cranky for some coffee, so i had to leave.

most shops were full. we ended up going back down to the first floor at a shop beside the disney decors. they had a wide waiting area table for people waiting for take out, but they said that we can use it. it was there were i got a heart... and a blueberry muffin. we had the longest chit chat of our lives. they shared of their plans to migrate to australia, while i was too frozen with the fact that deadly spiders and deadly snakes will be a neighbor if ever.

sunset came and we could finally leave to explore the illuminations. i was here days ago and here i am again today. it is definitely more crowded now so for those wanting some peace, better come after 8 or 9 when the crowd thins out.

everyone wanted to take pictures of the lights, i took pictures of them taking pictures of those lights. we walked till the end of the bright lights and decided to head out to shibuya.

as tourists for the day, we just had to visit the hachiko statue. tourists take pictures with the dog, and locals use this as a meet up place. we were searching for shoes, i was very much focused on what is up for dinner.

after so many full restaurants, we finally reached this unagi place. unagi is japanese freshwater eel and is usually served grilled.

just look at how lovely that is! that is half a serving of unagi with rolled eggs. at 2000 yen, this is even better than expected. comparatively cheaper than other unagi shops, but tastes just like the same. hope you can taste the tender meat grilled to perfection with a sweet umami sauce.

here is an overload of those unagi boxes. they also have variants without the egg, and more servings of the fish. you will surely enjoy every penny spent in this shop.

with a full stomach, time to check for more shoe shops, not for me though. look at all the neon lights of shibuya, many of which were karaoke houses. is shibuya becoming the karaoke capital of tokyo?

we were finally heading home, the night is ending. the great tour guiding is ending. it was a day well spent to replenish the soul.

we headed back to the station with these huge ad for a new debuting group. these two were from the boy group reality show i was avidly following months ago. i'm just happy for the both of them. i wonder how this duo will work out.
