You know at the end of the previous part of the story they had a meeting where Varka who is a seasoned soldier rallied them together to come up with a really interesting plan. They were going to use the villain's own tactics against him, namely this thing they were calling variables. The variables are finding a way to communicate with people in the past in order to reshape their state of mind so they end up doing something differently in their time which would butterfly effect into the present. I was looking forward to seeing how that would play out.

And then they just ran right at the villain and got beat down very fast. Our main character was even captured and that's really it for them this whole story. They are the damsel in distress and we're playing as other characters now. Did the villain make them dumber or something?
