Avocatos for Lunch
Avocados for lunch.
Avocados are a great addition to meals, especially here in Venezuela, where they’re served alongside traditional dishes. For example, a good plate of rice with salad and meat, accompanied by an avocado, is one of the tastiest things you can eat.
I really appreciate that this community is a place to let out the thoughts that come to mind, and it fills me with anger, rage, frustration, disappointment, and sadness to know that these avocados today won’t be served with any of those signature dishes that are now part of our Venezuelan cuisine.
It’s uncomfortable, and of course, it’s quite embarrassing, but I know I’ll get through this situation and come out on top.
Today, Tuesday, July 28, since I haven’t had a single thing to eat at home for several days now, I decided to climb to the top of an avocado tree to pick a few—even though they aren’t quite ripe—because I had no other choice but to peel open a couple to go with an arepa.
The funniest part of it all—and I say “funny” because sometimes there’s really no other way to look at these things in life except with a sense of humor—is that every time our arepas are served with no butter or any seasoning, just plain and simple, and cooked with avocado.
However, I’m grateful to have this food because I know there are people who are much worse off than I am—in much more complicated situations—and even people who can’t manage a lunch of fruits or vegetables like I’ve done today.
That’s why I’m grateful for this meal on my table, but I want to emphasize that this isn’t something to be proud of or that actually makes you feel better, because another person’s misfortune doesn’t alleviate your own in the slightest, so we keep fighting. Guys, we keep growing; we keep looking for those beautiful things that brighten our lives.
And even though there’s a lot of frustration—since an empty, hungry stomach drives any mind to despair and start making bad decisions.
Although I stay away from any kind of crime or actions that could harm my future, sometimes being alone makes my mind consider other options.
That’s all for today. A big shutout to everyone who’s part of this community and the blockchain in general. If you have any questions or comments, I’d love to hear them—but no pity, because there’s no need to feel sorry for anyone; these are just situations in life that test us.
