Esther ; my poetry
Esther
Where were you, Esther?
You orphaned Queen
appointed by God
to save a nation and,
like a woman does,
you stared death in the face
and asked it not to take
and it listened
Why didn't they mention you
on Sunday morning;
when I sat in that pew,
like a woman does,
assuming myself unworthy
of speaking up
I wish you had been there, Esther;
at the pulpit,
the main feature
Holy words telling me
that girls can speak too,
telling everyone
what a woman can do
