monomad entry: between the old wharves
at Fredriksvern Verft there are four huge wooden wharf sheds from the mid 1700s built very close together with only a narrow passage between them. while the facades are painted the rough plank siding has never been. the original siding is still in place. the original roof tiles had survived many storms however they were replaced in the 1980s. small fragments of the original tiles remain on the ground in the passage. a couple of years ago hurricane Amy came from a very unusual direction and blew some of the newer tiles off the roof so they fell down in the passage. most of them have been removed.
looking back through the passage. the visible facades of the wharves have traditional board and batten cladding typical of the period. any replacement of the cladding is done with the exact same material and design. the wooden boat on display in front of these two galley sheds is old but not nearly as old as the buildings
i took all these shots in color with my S22 and edited them to black and white on the phone itself
