Math Homework Over The Holiday Break Is Crazy

Hi there. In this short education post I talk about a recent thing that has occurred with two grade 12 high school students I work with in my educational services work. I did have a past education post a while back about homework over the holidays. When I was grade nine I had a geography teacher give a large assignment for us to do over the holidays. I think it was about 20% of our grade for that course. The timing was really annoying especially for those who planned vacation during the break.

I guess one good thing about homework over the holiday is that it is one less large assignment to do during a busy school year before exam preparation season. It is still annoying though.

Math Homework During The Holidays

These two grade 12 students are both classmates and friends. The one student tells me that they have a math project/large assignment to do over the holidays. Having homework over the holiday/Christmas break is rare. Also it really annoys students and even parents about the existence of homework during a break. It is a major inconvienence to those who have vacations planned out months in advance over the break. Knowing that there is homework to do during vacation is not a good feeling. A teacher that assigns homework during a break has questionable ethics and practices. Complaints from students and parents should be encouraged in my opinion.
