Tips for the Perfect Moka Pot Coffee

Discover the art of crafting a rich and aromatic cup of Moka coffee straight from your kitchen. This Italian classic is elevated with precise techniques, ensuring a smooth, full-bodied coffee experience every time. Follow this guide for the perfect balance of flavor and clarity.

Ingredients

🚰 Filtered water to fill bottom chamber of the Moka pot
☕️ 2 tablespoons pre-ground espresso coffee (Recommended: Illy, Lavazza, or Hausbrandt)

Instructions

1- Preparation:

  • Disassemble the Moka pot into its three parts: top chamber, coffee basket, and bottom chamber.
  • Fill the bottom chamber with filtered water just below the safety valve.

2- Coffee Loading:

  • Fill the coffee basket with pre-ground espresso coffee without pressing it down. Lightly tap the basket on a counter to level out the grounds.
  • Optionally, use a needle distribution tool to break up any clumps in the coffee grounds for an even distribution. Avoid tamping.

3- Filter Placement:

  • Place a folded No. 2 paper coffee filter on the coffee grounds inside the basket.

4- Assembly:

  • Assemble the Moka pot by screwing the top chamber back onto the filled bottom chamber tightly to ensure a proper seal.

5- Brewing:

  • Set the Moka pot on the Gorenje induction cooktop. Open the lid to monitor the brewing process.
  • Turn the cooktop to a low heat setting to prevent burning.

6- Monitoring and Finalizing:

  • Watch as coffee begins to flow out of the central spout. Close the lid as the first drops appear.
  • For the advanced option, remove the Moka pot from the heat immediately as water starts to flow, letting it finish brewing off the direct heat.
  • Listen for the "pshh" sound, signaling the end of brewing.

7- Serving:

  • Carefully pour the brewed coffee into a white ceramic cup and enjoy.
