New Orleans-style Cafe Royale

Experience the theatrical pleasure of a classic New Orleans-style Cafe Royale. This dramatic after-dinner drink combines a rich black coffee base with a sweet, caramelized touch of Grand Marnier, made irresistible through a captivating flaming presentation.

Ingredients

☕ A mug of hot black coffee, brand: your choice
🍬 1 cube brown sugar, brand: your choice
🍊 1 small bottle Grand Marnier, brand: visible

Instructions

1- Setup:

  • Begin by placing a Cafe Royale spoon from Reed & Barton on the rim of your clear glass mug filled with hot black coffee.

2- Prepare the Spoon:

  • Place a brown sugar cube into the bowl of the Cafe Royale spoon.

3- Add Liqueur:

  • Pour Grand Marnier over the sugar cube, ensuring it is completely soaked and the spoon is filled.

4- Soak and Rest:

  • Allow the sugar to soak in the liqueur for a few moments to soften and partially dissolve.

5- Create Ambience:

  • Dim the lights to enhance the forthcoming spectacle of fire.

6- Ignite:

  • Using a lighter, carefully ignite the alcohol-soaked sugar in the spoon, creating a mesmerizing blue/purple flame.

7- Caramelize:

  • Let the flame burn out completely to caramelize the sugar and infuse it with the warm flavors of the liqueur.

8- Combine:

  • After the flame extinguishes, tip the spoon to pour the caramelized mixture into the coffee.

9- Stir and Serve:

  • Stir the coffee well to blend all the flavors. Now, serve this flaming delight as a memorable conclusion to your meal.
