Banana Split Espresso Tonic

Dive into a unique blend of flavors with this "Banana Split Espresso Tonic." Inspired by the classic dessert, this cold coffee beverage combines homemade banana syrup and a dark-flavored syrup, paired with tonic water and fresh espresso. Perfect for adventurous coffee lovers seeking a refreshing treat with a twist!

Ingredients

🍌 1 medium Banana, sliced into rounds
🍬 1/2 cup Sugar
💧 1/2 cup Water
🍫 Dark, dry ingredients like dried cherries or cacao nibs, about 1/4 saucepan
☕️ 18-20g Coffee beans, freshly ground
❄️ Ice cubes, enough to fill a tall glass
🥤 1 bottle Fever-Tree Premium Tonic Water

Instructions

1- Prepare Banana Syrup:

  • Slice the banana into rounds and combine with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan.
  • Heat the mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the banana softens and the mixture thickens.
  • Strain the mixture through a mesh sieve into a mixing bowl, pressing solids to extract all liquid.
  • Pour the syrup into a swing-top bottle.

2- Prepare Dark Flavored Syrup:

  • In a clean saucepan, combine the dark ingredients, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup water.
  • Heat while whisking until a rich, dark brown syrup forms.

3- Prepare Espresso:

  • Grind the coffee beans using the Varia VS3 grinder.
  • Load the ground coffee into the espresso portafilter with a dosing funnel.
  • Use a WDT tool to distribute grounds, tamp them down with a coffee tamper.
  • Preheat the Flair Espresso Maker's brew head, proceed with espresso extraction into a carafe.

4- Assemble the Drink:

  • Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  • Add a layer of banana syrup over the ice.
  • Pour tonic water over the syrup, filling almost to the top.
  • Gently add the espresso shot over the tonic water.
  • Drizzle the dark-flavored syrup over the espresso.
  • Stir gently with a metal straw to combine flavors.
