Holozing and the battle of humans against nature - Fanlore
Some stories come from imagination. Others are born from experiences that stay with you for years. The next Holozing story I want to write belongs to the second group.
I don't want to create another adventure about heroes defeating villains or powerful creatures saving the world. Instead, I want to explore something much more personal: humanity's relationship with nature, and how easily we forget that we are part of it rather than its masters.
The inspiration for this story comes from a memory that has never left me.
a week ago, I experienced an earthquake in Venezuela. Like many people who have lived through one, I remember the overwhelming feeling of helplessness.
It lasted only a short time, but in those few seconds everything changed. The ground beneath my feet—something I had always considered solid and dependable suddenly moved without warning. Buildings shook, people ran outside, and for a brief moment everyone realized how fragile our sense of control truly is.
That experience stayed with me long after the shaking stopped.
As humans, we often act as though we can dominate nature. We reshape mountains, redirect rivers, cut down forests, and build cities that seem permanent. Technology has allowed us to accomplish incredible things, and it's easy to believe that every obstacle can eventually be overcome.
But nature has a way of reminding us that there are limits.
An earthquake doesn't care about wealth, technology, or status. A storm doesn't stop because we ask it to. A volcano doesn't wait for permission before erupting. Moments like these don't necessarily teach fear they teach humility.
That is the feeling I want to capture in my Holozing story.
Rather than portraying nature as an enemy, I want to show it as something alive, something that exists in balance. In my vision, the greatest mistake humanity can make is believing that balance can be replaced with control. The more people try to force nature into obedience, the more they create consequences they never expected.
I think this idea fits naturally within the world of Holozing.
The bond between Healers and Zings has always felt deeper than simple companionship. It represents cooperation instead of domination. Neither side is stronger because it controls the other. They become stronger because they trust one another and work together.
That message resonates with me.
When I look back on that earthquake, I don't remember buildings or objects. I remember people helping one another. Neighbors checking on neighbors. Families embracing. Complete strangers making sure everyone was safe.
In moments when nature reminds us of its power, we often respond with our best qualities: compassion, unity, and resilience.
Those are the emotions I hope to weave into this story.
I don't want readers to finish it thinking humanity is weak. Quite the opposite. I want them to remember that our greatest strength has never been our ability to conquer the natural world. It has always been our ability to respect it, learn from it, and adapt alongside it.
Perhaps that's the lesson Holozing can tell in its own unique way.
Not that nature must be defeated.
Not that humanity must surrender.
But that the healthiest future for both people and Zings can only exist when neither seeks to rule the other.
Sometimes the strongest stories don't come from fantasy at all.
Sometimes they begin with a real moment that reminds us how small we are, and how much there is still to respect about the world we call home.
