Justice and peace should be balance
To be honest, picking between justice and peace is a very hard decision anyone can face. On a second thought, peace seems like the right answer because everyone wants to live a life free from crisis, trouble, and conflict. Most times peace comes with a price. This is why I keep asking people, is peace truly peace if it is built on injustice?
Justice is all about accountability and fairness, which means people are being held responsible for their actions. Without justice, wrongdoers will continue to harm people; they will keep hurting people because there are no consequences to their crimes. Many times seeking justice can be dangerous; it can lead to loss of life, and it can damage relationships. Many of the freedoms and rights we are enjoying today are because someone fought and sacrificed their peace for us to be comfortable.
When it comes to peace, there is a sacrifice to pay argument; there are constant battles, and people will lose their lives most times. Pursuing justice can do more damage than the original offense. In situations like these, forgiveness and letting go are the best decisions. Peace is one thing that allows growth and healing; it allows us to focus more on building our lives instead of trapping ourselves in disputes.
For me the best thing is balancing between justice and peace. Justice without peace can cause vengeance, which is people will focus more on punishing others, and they will lose their happiness in the process. Then peace without justice will silence wrongdoers without them paying consequences for their crimes. Without justice in a country, things will be worse; that is to say, both peace and justice are very important for us to balance the world.
If I am to choose, I will pick justice. I have this belief that some cases are worth defending even when it comes with problems. A community where people are afraid to seek justice, injustice thrives in such a community. Justice can be pursued lawfully; our goal should not be revenge but correction and accountability.
I also recognize that there are times that letting go is the best decision to make; if pursuing justice will endanger the lives of people or cause unnecessary destruction, it will be better to go for peace. My dad will always tell me, "In all you do, always use wisdom." Here comes the wisdom; we could be able to identify a battle that must be fought and one that should be let go.
Peace and justice should not be enemies because peace will only become stronger when it is built with justice. To choose between the two is not easy; I must say the most important thing is fairness and harmony.
