Child’s rights should be protected
If perpetrators of sex crimes should be given access to their own children is one question that is not easy for me. I will say they should not be given access to these kids, more especially when it has to do with children. Protecting these kids should always be the first thing we should look out for.
A country's system of justice differs; many countries have this ideology that perpetrators can serve their sentence, go to rehabilitation, and, after that, return to society. With rehabilitation something is possible. Some people argue that there should at least be a process for evaluating if the offender can have close contact with their children. They should not automatically lose every right to family relationships forever; they should be given an opportunity to bond with their family.
For instance, people who committed serious sexual offenses against a toddler or minor might buy the idea that they should never have access to their children again, including their own. Our children's safety should always come first.
From our prompt, the main issue is not whether the person is a biological parent; the main issue is the risk.
For someone to commit a sexual offense against a child, that means that such a person is sick in the brain; that is why I am so concerned about the safety of children around them. I don’t find it safe living kids around them, not minding that they have gone to a correction center; we have to be very cautious of people like them. Many questions keep running through my mind: Is it that this set of people don’t have a conscience or what? We kids' safety should always be in our minds. We should be careful of people who we leave our kids for.
I am not in support of permanently banning them from having access to their children; they can be monitored, visit therapists, and so on. Kids are easily traumatized at this point; we should remember that these kids have rights. The discussion should not only be around the offender's parental rights, but the child's right to safety should also be considered. The court should prioritize those rights above anything else. Have seen many kids who are still living in fear because of what they face.
In some developed countries the jurisdictions place restrictions on some convicted sex offenders, such as entering schools and holding positions that involve kids. It can last for a long time depending on the nature of their offense.
I always tell people that children's rights are very important; that is why their safety should never be gambled with for the fact that the offender has completed a prison sentence, which can’t automatically restore trust. When it comes to kids, their safety is important. It is the responsibility of the society to protect the children.
