Getting in the steps and doing a hike
Throughout the month of July, the weather has been... very hot. With very little, if any, rainfall. This has been pretty much the same for June and even May to some extent. It was recently announced that most of the UK is now officially in a drought, and the areas that aren't yet are on the verge of joining the list. There have been hosepipe bans and public parks turning off water features; however, in my city there has been a slight uproar as A big water pipe has burst and has been leaking huge amounts of water for weeks without any fix. With the hot weather, it has been very tricky to keep my study cool, and in turn, spending time on the computer has been non-existent; it has just been far too hot and with the UK not being known to have air conditioning in every home and units being expensive, I just haven't been spending much time inside. Instead, I have been spending lots of time outside and also at work with a steady stream of Overtime.
My step counts have been between the 15-20k mark consistently over the month, with me being quite active throughout the days, but on Sunday I hit a home run getting above 40k steps in one day when I decided to do a hike in an unfamiliar area. It would have been a far longer hike, but the fellow walker I went with kept moaning about the heat and his rubbish footwear, and so we had to turn back. I felt irritated, but rather than make it a big deal, I will just go on my own next time. Despite the early turn-back, I still hit a 17km distance, so it wasn't a complete waste just wasn't the 30km+ target I was hoping for.
With the walk being a popular long path, formerly an old railway line, and following alongside a river, it is not looking like this area is affected by the drought, but I assure you everywhere else is. With the heat, there were plenty of cyclists about. This path Marriotts way is very popular, and despite the petty crimes that often occur towards the city end of the path, the further out you go, the nicer it becomes.
It felt very nice to get the hiking trainers out again and do a hike, and I hope going forward I can do them on a more regular basis, especially when the weather cools off but doesn't go too cold.
With that, I wrap up today's post. Thanks for reading.
