I am getting older and am approaching retirement. While I don't plan to slow down really, I do want to switch to a 'slower' lifestyle. I have always been an urban dweller , but i always wanted to try a more rural life.
land is EXPENSIVE and I never imagined I could afford any. but now I have discovered the Philippines and land there is like 10-0100 (or even more?) times cheaper than here in usa. My x father in law has a small farm on bohol, philippines. he offered that I can go live on his land and even that he will leave it to my son. :)
so, if I could just know a new skill or even learn and master,.. which i am keen and looking forward to doing, it is FARMING.
I want to have some animals as well as garden. Chickens are a given I suppose. I also want pigs and goats. maybe some quail as well. I like the smaller animals. No cows or horses for me, i think. never say never, right?
I want to set up my farm to be sustainable and self sufficient. I need to learn more about permaculture. I want a inspired design system that is like it as in nature. I'm thinking food forest with edible fruits and weeds and a pond and just lots of land where i and the animals can just graze.
another big reason is that I am a big believer in lowering cost of living.. eliminating expenses. so, if one can grow their own food, that is a big financial help as well. If there is ever another covid esque disaster or similar thing, then if u had.. or should i say, when it happens again. ALWAYS BE PREPARED (boyscouts)
let's eleborate on it some.. if a person spends about $200 on food each month.. and there was no need to buy anything from the market.. thats a big saving as well as you can use that money to invest.. do you know how much HIVE you can get for that much each and every month.. Nice!
