Las Carmelitas School, a striking building in the historic center of Cumaná (Eng - Esp)
Greetings to fellow travelers around the world; I hope you are all in good health. While browsing my phone's gallery, I came across a series of photos I took of the Las Carmelitas educational center. It is located at the intersection of Bolívar and Catedral streets, near Bolívar Plaza. The building sits on a corner, extending along Bolívar Street at the front, with one side facing Catedral Street and the rear bordering La Ermita Street. Along with the Antonio José de Sucre school, it is one of the city's largest educational institutions; this one stands out in particular because it educates students from preschool through high school. They often hold activities in Bolívar Plaza, and I recently had the chance to see a performance by their marching band. The students are very well-coordinated; I really liked their uniforms and their dance routines, though I couldn't take photos on that occasion because my phone battery had died.
The photos show the Christmas decorations from last year. The building is beige, with walls featuring a textured finish of small stones. The main entrance, the perimeter fence, and some Christmas decorations are visible at the front. When Bolívar Plaza is decorated, ornaments are also placed in front of the school, as the area adjoins some of the plaza's benches and trees; on this occasion, the lamppost featured white lights, and the trees were adorned with red ribbons.
Saludos amigos viajeros en todo el mundo, deseo se encuentren disfrutando de buena salud, revisando la galería de mi teléfono encontré una serie de fotos que tomé al centro centro educativo las Carmelitas, este se encuentra ubicado en la calle Bolívar con calle Catedral, cerca de la plaza Bolívar, el edificio está en una esquina y se extiende hacia la calle Bolívar en la parte frontal, uno de los laterales hacia y la calle Catedral y la parte posterior converge con la calle la Ermita, es uno de los centros educativos junto con el Antonio José de Sucre más grande de la ciudad y este en particular destaca porque forma a los estudiantes desde preescolar hasta el bachillerato, en la plaza Bolívar suelen realizar sus actividades y recientemente tuve la oportunidad de ver una exhibición de la banda musical, estos chicos trabajan muy coordinados, me gustó el atuendo y cómo ejecutan los bailes, en esta ocasión no pude tomar fotos porque el teléfono estaba descargado.
Las fotografías muestran las decoraciones navideñas realizadas el año pasado, el edificio es de color beige y en las paredes está cubierto con pequeñas rocas, en la parte frontal se observa la puerta principal, la cerca perimetral y algunas decoraciones navideñas; cuando se decora la plaza Bolívar, al frente de este centro educativo se colocan también varios adornos al frente del colegio, ya que converge con algunos bancos y árboles de la plaza, en esta oportunidad tenía varias luces de color blanco en el poste y los árboles decorados con cintas rojas.
Moving along the side of the school, the logo can be seen at the top corner; it is triangular at the bottom and rounded at the top, featuring a color scheme of burgundy, white, and gray. It is adorned with three stars and displays the name "Colegio Nuestra Señora del Carmen"—its official name, though it is commonly known as "Las Carmelitas." White lines decorating this corner are also visible. Continuing toward the side that meets Catedral Street, the front section comes into view; it differs significantly in color from the rest of the building, featuring white and pink tones with brown columns. Next, there is a partial view of Catedral Street, including Café Bracamonte and the Bishop's headquarters, with a house on La Ermita Street visible in the distance.
In this area, the street is lined with walls, and part of the Plaza Bolívar pavement is visible. We then see the upper windows and the palm trees located at the front. The building has two stories; the lower windows have security grilles, while the upper ones are glazed. The perimeter fence is black and the walls are white, with the wall section holding the grille matching the color of the building's façade.
Avanzando por el lateral del colegio, se encuentra el logo en la parte superior de la esquina, tiene forma triangular en la parte de abajo y semi redonda arriba, combina los colores vinotinto blanco y gris, tres estrellas lo decoran y se lee el nombre: Colegio nuestra señora del Carmen ese es su nombre real, pero se le conoce como las "Carmelitas", se observan también las líneas blancas que decoran esta esquina, luego seguimos hacia el lateral que converge con la calle Catedral, se aprecia la parte frontal que tiene un color muy diferente al resto del edificio, en esta zona es de color blanco con rosado y las columnas son de color son marrón, luego tenemos una vista parcial de la calle Catedral, el café Bracamonte la sede del obispado y al final se aprecia una casa de la calle la Ermita.
En esta zona la calle está decorada con muros y se observa parte del piso de la plaza Bolívar, luego tenemos una vista de las ventanas superiores y las palmeras ubicadas en la parte frontal, el edificio tiene dos pisos, las ventanas de abajo tienen rejas y las de arriba de vidrio; la cerca perimetral es de color negro y los muros de color blanco, la pared donde se ubica la reja tiene el mismo color del edificio en la parte frontal.
Next, we see some of the white granite benches from Bolívar Square, followed by the school's main entrance and its beautiful lantern-style lights; the doorway features a semi-arched shape, the institution's logo, and a double cornice, with a staircase leading to a wooden door decorated with a Christmas theme.
Then, there is the paving that marks the boundary between the school and Bolívar Square, recognizable by its rectangular pattern. Finally, we see the side of the building facing Bolívar Street—including the fencing, the windows, and a lovely palm tree adorning the area. The wall, clad in small stones, looks very attractive and lends a distinctive style to this striking building, which is located near Bolívar Square and stands as an important part of the city—not only for its architectural design but also for its long-standing commitment to education.
