CKI Outreach Activity: Street Kids Tutorial Program
Hello there, lovely hoomans!
I got some free time recently and can finally join some extra-curricular activities again. Actually, I have missed a lot of it since I need to prioritize my research and on the job training to pass our final year in college. I might be strayed away for quite a while with volunteering but my passion still lingers in me. It something that can't be forgotten and disappear from my personality.
In celebration of our organization's international day, we had conducted an outreach activity by the public plaza and invited some of the kids nearby to join the short program. We have collaborated with few teachers and student-teachers to make this happen. With members like us, we gave any help we could have to facilitate the event smoothly.
I never taught any kids before, and I'm not good with handling kids. I don't really know how to approach them since we're strangers to each other. I'm not even good with having my own kid's attention when I try to teach her.
For kids to have a better experience, I let my co-member to take over. I watched how she handled them naturally while I assist her with the materials. Why is it so easy for them to socialize while it's a torture for me? Look at her, she seems so stressed dealing with them but she still delivers the job nicely.
We taught them how to read, color, review math problems and read them a story. There's also prices for those outstanding children at the end of the session. Most of the kids are already knowledgeable since they're studying in a gradeschool nearby. It was the parents that brought them here, so they could have some valuable playtime even for just a few hours.
Those kids were lovely. They enjoy their lessons with us and was very attentive. They were even competing to those questions asked after the storytelling. I hope they could keep up that kind of behavior and study well until they finish their studies in the future.
Opportunities like this are rare for me to experience since I have other priorities to attend. However, I hope time would allow me someday to experience this again to help other kids.
This is the end of this blog. See you in the next one. Thanks for reading!
