Hello to all cat lovers and cat parents! Are you pampering your kitties today? I actually pamper mine every day, but even more so today because it's their day! Yes, today, August 8th, is International Cat Day. One of the three commemorative dates of the year. Cats are the only animals that celebrate their day three times a year. But let's talk a little about August 8th.
This date to commemorate this very special species was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) with the aim of protecting felines, promoting responsible adoption, and raising awareness about their rights and basic needs.
Today, just like with dogs, the abandonment and mistreatment of cats has increased dramatically. Many people look at these beautiful creatures with disdain and tend to reject them. It's a cruel act I've witnessed, and it fills me with deep sadness because, as a cat mom of four, I can't understand it. My blessings are magical beings who only know how to give love. My heart breaks every time I see so many abandoned kittens in the city, and I wish I had the means to protect them all—both kittens and puppies.
The creation of this international date was placed in the northern hemisphere taking into consideration that it was the time of greatest feline reproduction. One of the main motivations was to stop the abandonment of kittens as much as possible, and the other was to encourage and promote adoption and sterilization as a mechanism to reduce their mass reproduction.
Perhaps this date emphasizes these actions, but the task is to promote them 365 days a year... No to animal abuse and abandonment, and we must protect, adopt and sterilize, because it not only controls the excessive reproduction of kittens, but also prevents diseases, especially in kittens.

Hola a todos los amantes de los gatitos, y papás gatunos. ¿Están mimando hoy a sus michis? Realmente yo los mimo a diario, pero hoy aun más por celebrarse su día. Si, hoy 8 de agosto se celebra el Día Internacional del gato. Una de las tres fechas de conmemoración del año. Los gatos son los únicos animales que celebran su día tres veces al año. Pero hablemos un poco del 8 de agosto.
Esta fecha para conmemorar a esta especie tan especial, fue creada en el año 2002 por el Fondo Internacional para el Bienestar Animal (IFAW) con la finalidad de proteger a los felinos, fomentar una adopción responsable y crear conciencia sobre sus derechos y necesidades básicas.
Hoy en día, al igual que a los perritos, el abandono y maltrato de los gatos ha crecido descomunalmente. Muchas personas miran a estas hermosas criaturas con desdén y tienden a rechazarlos, es un acto cruel del cual he sido testigo y me da una profunda tristeza porque yo que soy mamá gatuna de cuatro, no puedo entender eso, si mis bendiciones son seres mágicos que sólo saben dar amor. Se me parte el alma cada vez que veo tantos gatitos abandonados por la ciudad, y quisiera tener las maneras de protegerlos a todos. Tanto gatitos como perritos.
La creación de esta fecha internacional, se colocó en el hemisferio norte tomando en consideración que era la época de mayor reproducción felina. Una de las principales motivaciones fue frenar en lo posible el abandono de gatitos, y la otra, incentivar y promover la adopción y la esterilización como mecanismo para bajar la reproducción masiva de éstos.
Quizás esta fecha enfatiza estas acciones, pero la tarea es promoverlas los 365 días del año... No al maltrato y al abandono animal, y hay que proteger, adoptar y esterilizar, porque no sólo controla la reproducción excesiva de gatitos, sino que evita enfermedades sobre todo en las gatitas.
