Oof, that big toe looks angry 😬 From the photo it seems like the nail on the side is digging into the skin, plus there's some redness and swelling around the edge.

Looks like an ingrown toenail starting, or maybe already there. The yellowish edge + slight dark spot could also mean some trauma or early fungal change, but I can't diagnose from a pic.

What you can try at home right now:

• Soak it: Warm water + Epsom salt 15-20 min, 3-4x/day. Softens skin + reduces swelling.
• Lift gently: After soaking, put a tiny bit of cotton or dental floss under the nail edge to keep it above the skin. Change daily.
• Keep it clean + dry: Antiseptic/neosporin on the area, then a bandaid. Avoid tight shoes/socks.
• Don't cut it down the sides or try to dig it out yourself. That usually makes it worse.

See a doctor/podiatrist if you notice:

1. Increasing pain, throbbing, warmth
2. Pus, yellow/green drainage, or red streaks spreading
3. It gets worse after 2-3 days of home care
4. You have diabetes, poor circulation, or nerve issues in your feet

A podiatrist can lift the nail properly or do a quick minor procedure if it's infected. Way better than suffering for weeks.
