Good morning Splinterlands fam! This is zusi78@zusi78, welcome to my blog.

Since November of last year, I’ve been grinding modern ranked battles nonstop. The dragon unit Calamity ranks among the toughest monsters to take down. Calamity is a high-priority, difficult-to-remove threat for good reason—especially once it starts scaling, and it always does so at an alarming rate thanks to one of its powerful abilities: Life Leech.

Whenever it shows up in an opponent’s lineup, I stay on edge until I remove it from the battlefield. But of a truth,I have lost countless times battling against this monster than win.

Nephket, with its Stun and Knockout abilities, has proven especially effective at dealing with Calamity.
Secondly, the Ambush + Execute combo of Nidhoggr and Warborn Shaman is another solid way I’ve handled Calamity’s threats. Likewise, the Ambush + Poison combo of Cryptic and Warborn Shaman works great too.

Honestly, for me, nothing feels better than defeating a player who brought Calamity into the fight. Please enjoy the replay of these two epic battles where Calamity was featured by my opponents..

Splinterlands is no walk in the park, but that’s what amps up the excitement. A winning strategy weighs stats, abilities, rulesets, mana caps, and beyond. That’s why you must factor them all into your deck building. Toss in strong cards to boost your setups, and push hard to rack up as many victories as possible! 🔥Featured Card: Calamity
There are countless posts out there about this powerful beast from other Splinterlands users, highlighting its lore, abilities, and market value. This post, however, focuses mainly on how to deal with this threat—especially those formidable abilities it brings to the battlefield. It keeps the same Magic Attack (3) and Speed (4) from Level 1 all the way to max. Health starts at 9 and reaches 10 at Level 3.

Calamity is a Legendary Dragon monster from the Mundane Beast bloodline. It is genuinely that powerful, especially in Modern ranked play. It’s widely regarded as one of the strongest low-mana Legendaries from the Conclave Arcana set and a meta-defining card.Full Ability Suite (at Max Level).

  • Shapeshift (Level 1)
Treated as all bloodlines. This is huge — it benefits from every Bloodline Tribute and works with almost any Archon that cares about bloodlines.
  • Electrified (Level 1 – Debilitation)
Deals 1 damage to all allied units at the start of every round.
This looks like a downside, but skilled players turn it into an advantage (especially with Painforge or Enrage-style synergies).
  • Life Leech (Level 2)
Increases both current health and maximum health by 50% of the damage dealt (rounded up).
With 3 Magic Attack, every successful hit typically gives +2 max HP. This is the main reason Calamity snowballs so hard and becomes extremely hard to kill once it starts attacking.
  • Expose (Level 3)
80% chance to remove key defensive abilities after a successful attack (Forcefield, Lookout, Deflect, Shield, Void, Void Armor, or Immunity). Immunity is always removed first. This strips enemy tanks and backline protection very effectively.
  • Last Stand (Level 4)
When Calamity is the last unit left on your team, it gains +50% to all stats and current health (rounded up). A true “final boss” mode.

You might be tempted to ask: why is Calamity so strong?
Here is my answer:
It has insane mana efficiency — only 4 mana for 3 Magic, 10 Health, Speed 4, and five powerful abilities. That’s elite value.
On top of that, its scaling is a nightmare. Thanks to Life Leech, every successful hit permanently increases both its current and max health. Leave it alive for a few rounds and it quickly turns into a tank that still hits hard.
Finally, its low mana cost makes it especially dangerous in low-mana rulesets and Little League battles.

The community consensus (from multiple analysis posts) is that Calamity doesn’t just “fit” the meta — it helps reshape it. High-level players treat it as a priority threat that must be removed quickly, which matches exactly what I described in my blog posts. Enough of stories, let's get to see Calamity in

Battles.

In this battle Nephket was able to curtail its threat with stun and knockout abilities.

Here, Warborn shaman with the execute ability granted by Nidhoggr, ensures Calamity was put to rest.
