One Skill, A Lifetime of Confidence
If I could master one skill instantly, I would choose public speaking. Well, I know people usually choose programming, dancing, artists, singing or athletes which is not a wrong thing to do. I personally think that the ability to speak confidently is one of the most powerful skills. It's not a easy thing to do, unless you have a nature like that.
I have always been a quiet kid, not only that I only speak with the people who I have known for a long time. In class, I usually sit in the back bench so the teacher would not call for my name but somehow I always get picked and whenever the teacher asks me to read the book loud, my heart starts beating fast. My hands starts to shake the moment I start to speak and it starts to get cold. To be honest, I worry that everyone will laugh if I make a mistake. Because of that fear I always prefer to stay silent.
But when I can detect someone who is genuine with me, I can speak freely with them. I don't feel nervous because I know the other person isn't going to mock my situation. I don't stutter anymore and I speak fluently. The moment it's infront of strangers I feel nervous. I know it shouldn't matter what others will say or think and that's what I say most of the time, yet I have some weaknesses towards it.
I have seen many people with less knowledge they have confidence, they would confidently say something even if it's wrong. It feels like that's the only thing I'm lacking, even when I know I'm saying the right thing, my fears hold me back. If I could instantly master public speaking, I would finally be able to share my thoughts without fear. I could give give answer to questions confidently. Maybe I could express my opinions in a better way. I would also feel more comfortable meeting new people and making friends because I would not be afraid to start conversations.
This skill would also help me in the future. Because I want to be a content creator and speaking on camera will be tough for me, if I don't learn it quickly. Being a confident speaker can open many doors and create opportunities. So, I don't want to miss any opportunities as I have a big dream to achieve.
If I became a great public speaker, then I could also speak about kindness and make people understand how much it is required. In addition, I would encourage quiet people who are just like me, I would want them to believe in themselves because I know exactly how they feel. For me, public speaking is having the confidence to let your voice be heard not just about talking clearly. If I could master one skill instantly, this would be the one that could change my life and inspire others too.
