The countdown clock
Having a device that can tell death time is actually tempting. Because of the desire to live with intention
But I would rather wake up everyday hoping, than buy a device that can tell me the exact time of my death.
A lot of people are already battling with depression and anxiety. Now imagine giving them this device, it only causes more harm to them.
What about our society, the government or the employers? People with shorter life spans might lose opportunities there will be discrimination and injustice.
And people who have longer life spans might feel empowered and start making unnecessary decisions.
Presently we are living our lives with doubt, and somehow that doubt makes life meaningful.
We plan with no Idea if it works out or fails, we learn to forgive, we have big dreams, we hope for something better and that's because we believe time is on our side. That's how life has been designed to protect us from ourselves.
But with a device like that everything changes. What happens when a young boy discovers he has just 3 weeks left to live. He can't live fully, the lack of peace, the pressure and fear.
So for me, I will prefer my illusion of “hope.” it might be uncertain but it's better I don't know what might hurt me. It will give me peace to enjoy moments naturally. I won't have to live in fear
I can freely laugh with my friends, love deeply without the fear of leaving someone behind.
I don't want a mechanical life that, instead of living, we will be calculating. I want to live freely, not in fear.
The fact that we don't know when life will end makes it valuable. Some mystery is just meant to stay mysterious. Because once you know you've known.
