Ranking [Esp-Eng]

Ranking [Esp-Eng]

If someone prejudiced looks at him, one of those who love to judge "the cover," he might think he is in front of a banal or even conflicted young man. Nothing to do with it. Luis Ángel Rodríguez González’s canvases are not enough to express his feelings and, for that reason (perhaps), he has painted his body with tattoos. But beyond the shaved part of his head, the fragment of a missing eyebrow and the skin that screams rebellion, art and determination, there is a novel creator whose work gradually breaks through, by its unique style, interesting fusion of tones, atmosphere and dreamlike content - mythological - historical, to call it in some way or, even simpler, fiction.
Ranking, as is known in the artistic section, evidently draws on universal authors (not only from the plastic) and brings within its paintings dreamings, fables, stories, characters and contexts of other eras and cosmovisions, in a kind of pictorial narrative where faces, animals, trees, stairs, boats, sea and a myriad of elements and silhouettes flutter. So it seems that his imagination has no limits and, although each work dialect in the whole, in particular possesses its own discourse and plot.
So, they pululan in similar proportions, here and there, eroticism, innocence, mystique, oropel, concepts, emotions, symbols and, of course, questions, many questions, for the viewer. I have already noticed the psychology implicit in their creations because, even when the canvas gives us a glimpse into "another world" thanks to the magic of surrealism, looks, gestures, clothing, details and perspective also seem to speak to us in general...
These are also pieces with cinematic nuances. We feel that we have entered the plot of a film and experienced certain scenes... So, we go back to Quixote and read it differently through the ingenuity of the brush. We "mess" with other mills, we get lost in the time that their symbols evoke. Likewise, we feel the fire of battle and the steel that burns as it passes through the heart muscle, or the desolate mantle of some shipwreck.
But there is also hope; the author returns it to us in the form of faces of children or elderly, of beings who walk, think, are taciturn, with faith... And we painted Cuba on our chest like an infant does. And we felt part of the process.
What are we to know that behind all this there are many hours of no sleep, of dissatisfaction sometimes, of erasing a picture and starting over. That acrylic does not melt like oil (though it is more toxic) and that several layers of paint are needed to achieve the precise hue, which now inevitably traps our pupils.
What shall we know that his author was once judged by his physicist (it is already too late). That he has had to learn that "the soup work" is needed, but also (and above all) one that reveals the heart and talent of an artist. That painting mulattas, American machines, tobacco and rum is not enough; that Cuba is more than that. But now, we are faced with a ranking more worthy of the nickname he carries and, although (like everyone, varying authors) we can glimpse a certain aura of Maykel Herrera here, of Alexis Roselló there, or of Roberto Fabelo acullá, Luis Ángel has built his own style and, At this point, no one can deny it... Do you have much to do yet? He does. But this is a good "ranking".
In particular (because everything is perfectible), I would have removed from the assembly two or three works that could still (I think) be polished further. Fortunately, these are less visible, though this does not mean that they lack value, just that they can run, rather than crawl or waver. There are also others that, although they have an obvious quality, are a bit far removed from the thematic leitmotif of the exhibition.
Now, speaking from my position as a spectator - editor, I realize that I have involuntarily fled the traditional "inverted pyramid" of journalism (although this is not information), but if you, reader, have come so far, I will tell you what I should have said first: my lines are the result of a personal appreciation of the Retrospective exhibition, by the young visual artist Luis Ángel Rodríguez González, showing that it hosts the Guernica gallery, from the House of the Young Creator in Las Tunas, Cuba.

So, if you are from here, you are invited to visit the headquarters of the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (AHS) because, more than a "retrospective", you will find in the institution the "perspective" of a creator who dreams and does not stop. That, in times of blackouts and shortages of all kinds, I don’t know about you, but to me it seems like a light.
