The Days In Between
Sometimes, we get through each week and begin to realize that no two days are the same. Each one comes with its responsibilities, laughter, stress, and drama.
Some days, I like it when I do absolutely nothing, and this doesn’t mean I’m lazy or unambitious. It simply means that I recognize the importance of taking breaks from a demanding life.
Other times, I enjoy when it’s all work and no play because not only does it help distract me from some of the poor events of my life, it also gives me the assurance that I can get what I want with consistent effort.
But today was different. It wasn’t boring or chaotic. It was in between these two. It was a rainy day, so I stayed in bed until about 10am, unknown to me. Later, I got on with a few house chores and while I was at it, I listened to some good music and shared a favorite with a friend who was having a bad day at work. We gushed over it and repeated the lyrics via text. It was a wholesome experience.
I didn’t have so much to look forward to, so I took some time to read an article on Medium and I wrote to another friend about how my week has been. I skipped breakfast for lunch and later found myself watching some funny videos online and reading some interesting tweets that helped put my opinions on certain topics under scrutiny.
This evening, I spent some time looking at my Hive account and realized I made only one post last week and none this week. It sort of made me sad because I made a commitment to be consistent this year on Hive and somehow, this isn’t the first time I’ve gone off track due to a general lack of interest in publishing a post.
I do think my consolation comes from the fact that I’ve promised myself not to force ME to share my thoughts publicly in times like this or overwork myself. It’s okay if I make two posts per week; it doesn’t take away my ability to churn out something nice on a good day. It also doesn’t define what consistency looks like for me because I could be doing well in some other areas outside of Hive.
Anyway, I ended the day by joining a chat with my sisters and having a meal I ordered online for dinner. Generally, it was a chill day, the kind you don’t have too many words for.
It's almost morning now and I’m restructuring my to-do list for the rest of the month and hoping nothing occupies me too much that I leave it unattended to.
