Embracing diversity at work.
Unity at its peak promotes efficient high productivity. This is about creating an environment where everyone feels respected and valued. This is about zeroing out favoritism and treating everyone the same.
A few weeks ago one of the workers told me he’ll be going for a tutorial to prepare for his jamb exam which I permitted but will definitely affect my business. I was on the lookout for a new employee and I got one after a day or two and agreed to all my terms and conditions immediately.
On his resumption day, I introduced him
to the rest of my co-workers and I observed that he was not accepted which I didn’t expect less of but I never knew it would result in a constant disagreement between them which got me worried because if this disagreement persists it would reduce the productivity and efficiency in my job.
So I privately called the senior worker and asked him what the problem was and after his whole explanation, I didn’t really find anything meaningful to his explanation same as the new worker. For my job’s safety, I started looking for ways to make them comfortable around one another.
I solve the issue by:
-Saying good things about one when I’m with another
I mention how nice and good one is whenever I’m with another to zero out whatever bad impression they might have concerning one another.
This first step really helped a lot because after I took this step they started talking very well.
-I correct both even when one is right.
Sometimes when a mistake is made by one I make sure I correct them both immediately to portray the benefit of teamwork, I’ll let them know they need to work hand in hand not to make mistakes. Right from there they look out for their selves to avoid being punished.
-I make sure to ask them daily if one has wronged the other.
Before we back to our various homes I specifically ask them if they’ve wronged one another today and if they have I immediately request an apology and a handshake from them both.
The steps were very helpful because after some time they both worked well with their selves improving the business and they hardly even quarrel now unlike before which created a safer environment for my customers and theirselves and I’m also rest assured my business is in good hands.
when we embrace diversity and tolerance in our workplace we tend to: be more creative, cultivate a sense of belonging, and unlock the full potential of our workers.
