Moi Era... 5 Minute Freewrite Daily Prompt
Howdy Freewriters ๐ค. Welcome to my 5 Minute Freewrite blog ๐.
It is all history now, the second presidential era. Whenever he made an appearance at a particular location, people lined up along the road, just to greet him since he was not only a VIP, but also the president.
As my mother narrated, the late Hon. Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi, the second president of Kenya, was greeted in a VVIP manner. From the youngest to the oldest, they all lined up along the road. School children would break into songs and dances just to honor and entertain his presence.
As a little child, I remember us using a certain phrase. Mostly, we used it when asking someone, especially a girl, to sit like a girl. The phrase was said in Swahili "funga duka Moi apite" translated to "close the shop Moi is passing". How we interconnected the two I can't really tell, but we did it anyway. Maybe, it had something to do with how everything closed whenever the late Hon. Moi made an appearance.
Why I say it's all history is, things are way different now. With the rise of Gen Z, I don't think we can line up on the streets to greet his excellency the president.
