When I saw this week's topic, my mind went, love and money go hand in hand, or more like, life in general and money go hand in hand, right?

There's this saying that goes something like, money is not everything, but it ranks top with oxygen. Just as we need oxygen to live, so do we need money to survive, and since "no man is an island", so do we need love.

However, talking about love, lately, this fruit of the Spirit has been misused, abused. The love I once knew when growing up, when I was still a teenager, the kind I was looking forward to, is not the same love that is circulating in the world today.

The love of today has become entangled with too many expectations. The same love that the Bible says, is selfless, has turned selfish and, to top it up, transactional.

We live in a time where, if a partner can't meet our material desires, we have no obligation but to move on to the next.

Instead of staying united and finding a solution together that can uplift us both, we tend to look for other partners who have what we want, at that moment, push through for a few months, before we're back to square one; finding the new partner.

And still, we label it love even when all along, it's driven more by material exchange than emotional depth.

What I can say about this week's prompt about love and money is: if love fades when bills enter the picture, then that was not love to start with. One of the partners was there solely for transactional favors, rather than mutual feeling. 

Love is a fruit that is never meant to go out of season, but when replaced with lust or convinience, then it's bound to wilt at the first sign of hardship.
