We never believed it to be true. The whole time we thought it was just another hype; just another scam. Just a myth.

Ever since the launch, Grandma had been sending money to the radio station. We even took turns helping her 'play' the lucky drawer. But nothing came of it. Grandpa warned her not to: "it's a waste of money," he'd say. But she wouldn't stop. She was convinced that one day she'd win it all back.

No winner ever announced at the station rang a bell.

Then one day - a Saturday - her cellphone rang. It was the radio presenter. He congratulated her: she'd been chosen as the lucky drawer, winning herself half a million Kenyan shillings.

She couldn't contain her joy. She looked at us and said, "See? It was not a myth."

I could only whisper, stunned, "It's not a myth?"
