Aunty Overboard... 5 Minute Freewrite Daily Prompt

On Sunday, I went with a friend for a walk to the beach, which somehow turned into a hilarious boat ride. We met our friend there; we call him Captain because he owns a little boat. He was cleaning it, and when he was done, he invited us to accompany him to the far end of the ocean creek to pick up some of his family. “Why not?” we thought. It was a chance to explore that end and catch the sunset.

He didn’t expect the people waiting to be that many for his small boat. When we got there, we were shocked, but they figured out a ferrying plan: two trips.

So, on the first trip, there was this little girl; ah, so pretty she was. But she turned sour when her aunty tried to take her seat. She rejected it so fiercely that even when the aunty left her a tiny spot, she refused to sit there. If she had the strength of a bull, I swear she’d have tossed her aunty overboard.

I could only watch and silently laugh, completely relating to that level of rejection. Children really do have a fierce way of saying “No!” I remembered my own son rejecting my Mama before slowly warming up to her.
