Lukewarm welcome

Better no welcome than a lukewarm one. I wonder why people welcome those they rather see leave. This behaviour is shown between family members, friends and neighbours. It makes one feel uncomfortable and wish to stay at home.

It's one out of the many reasons why a spontaneous visit is getting rare. It's not easy to keep your door shut if the doorbell rings and the lights are on.
In a way, you always feel forced to open that door even if you don't feel to it. It's only to good friends you can say: let me be, come back another day although my friends would contact me first because they do not live nearby.

At times I wonder how it can be we are always busy and if not rather watch the telly alone or sit behind the screen of the computer or watch our phone instead of spending real-time with each other.
Can it be that Facetiming is more appreciated because it's easier to kick your guest outside? All you have to do is hit a button and if you like you can always apologise later. No fake, no need to hug or kiss, no lukewarm welcome to keep up appearances. Life, and friendships by computer are so much easier to deal with.
