Los días van transcurriendo desde el terremoto y, créanme, no ha sido nada fácil. A nivel físico estamos todos bien, gracias a Dios, pero es difícil sentirse totalmente agradecido y pleno cuando hay personas que a esta hora aún siguen batallando por su vida debajo de los escombros. Es difícil sentirse bien, de alguna manera, cuando hay personas que han perdido a su familia entera; es difícil sentirse consolado cuando sabemos que hay quienes lo han perdido absolutamente todo. Entonces, es una felicidad parcial; si es que se le puede llamar felicidad, porque realmente no se puede. Pero queda la tranquilidad de que mi familia y mis amigos están bien, aunque ya se ha sabido de conocidos y amigos de mis conocidos que han fallecido, y eso afecta muchísimo.

​Days have been passing since the earthquake and, believe me, it hasn't been easy at all. On a physical level, we are all fine, thank God, but it's hard to feel completely grateful and fulfilled when there are people who, at this very hour, are still fighting for their lives beneath the rubble. It's hard to feel good, in a way, when people have lost their entire families; it's hard to feel comforted when we know there are those who have lost absolutely everything. So, it's a partial happiness—if it can even be called happiness, which it really can't. But it is the peace of mind that my family and friends are okay, even though we've already heard about acquaintances and friends of my acquaintances who have passed away, and that affects us deeply.

​Esta situación te pone a pensar en muchas cosas: en todo lo material, en cómo vivimos corriendo de un lado a otro y, al final, nada de eso vale. Es algo injusto, pero aun así no hay nada que se pueda hacer sino seguir orando. Queda seguir pidiéndole a Dios que todas esas personas que todavía están atrapadas puedan salir con bien, y que los cuerpos de rescate actúen de la manera más rápida posible para intentar salvar a la mayor cantidad de gente.

​This situation makes you think about many things: about material possessions, about how we live life running from one place to another, and in the end, none of it matters. It feels unfair, but even so, there is nothing left to do but keep praying. All we can do is keep asking God that all those people who are still trapped can make it out safely, and that the rescue teams act as quickly as possible to try and save as many lives as they can.

​Me parece verdaderamente absurdo que los cuerpos policiales, los militares y todos los organismos de autoridad —que en algún punto salieron en las marchas de años atrás y que siguen saliendo apenas hay alguna manifestación hoy en día— no se presenten hoy, no existan o simplemente no aparezcan cuando se supone que su principal objetivo es defender la soberanía de la nación y apoyar a los ciudadanos. Pero esto ya no nos sorprende para nada.

​I find it truly absurd that the police forces, the military, and all the authorities—who at some point flooded the streets during the marches years ago and continue to show up the moment there's any protest nowadays—are nowhere to be seen today, act as if they don't exist, or simply don't show up when their primary objective is supposed to be defending the nation's sovereignty and supporting its citizens. But then again, this doesn't surprise us at all anymore.

​Sin embargo, hay una parte buena en esta historia: ver cómo todos los venezolanos nos hemos unido, dando lo que quizás no tenemos y brindando el máximo apoyo aun estando mal. Como dicen por ahí: «A falta de gobierno, hay pueblo; hay unión». Esta es una de las cosas más bonitas y el acto de amor más puro hacia el otro, hacia el hermano venezolano. Es algo que nos caracteriza y pienso que es algo que nunca nadie nos va a poder arrancar, porque es parte de nuestra esencia.

​However, there is a good side to this story: seeing how all of us转换为 Venezuelans have united, giving what we perhaps don't even have and offering our utmost support even while suffering ourselves. As the saying goes: "In the absence of a government, there is the people; there is unity." This is one of the most beautiful things and the purest act of love toward one another, toward a fellow Venezuelan. It is something that defines us, and I think it's something no one will ever be able to strip away from us, because it is part of who we are.

​No les puedo decir cómo me siento; he llorado muchísimo. Estoy intentando que esto emocionalmente no me consuma, aunque es muy difícil, casi imposible, la verdad. Parece una pesadilla y solamente nos queda orar para que todo esto termine pronto. Anoche hubo una réplica que se sintió bastante fuerte; no a tal magnitud como el primer temblor, pero vivimos en la incertidumbre de en qué momento nos va a tocar salir o en qué momento se pueda repetir. Créanme que no es nada fácil. Muy a pesar de que mi estado fue el epicentro, no salimos tan afectados como otras regiones, y desde aquí se está prestando el apoyo y organizando todo para así poder llevar ayuda a los demás estados.

​I can't even tell you how I feel; I have cried so much. I'm trying not to let this consume me emotionally, although it is very difficult—almost impossible, truth be told. It feels like a nightmare, and all we can do is pray for this to end soon. Last night there was an aftershock that felt quite strong; not as massive as the first one, but we live in the uncertainty of when we'll have to run out or when it might happen again. Believe me, it's not easy at all. Despite the fact that my state was the epicenter, we weren't as badly affected as other regions, and from here, support is being provided and everything is being organized to bring aid to the other states.
