You don't have to be an ornithologist to enjoy

Not too far from here, there is a small lake with a lot of reed. It's the spot for bird lovers as it isn't just a hot spot for migratory birds taking a short rest before they continue their journey, but it's also possible to get quite close to them. Although it does require a telephoto lens for getting a really good close up shot... my 3x zoom isn't really all that great. There are quite a few shelters built right on the water shoreline from where birds can be seen as close as 30 yards. While I don't really know much about all of the different species, it's still really nice to just observe. Today was a rainy day which made for a quite dramatic display of clouds cast just right behind the thick walls of reed.

The best spot to get a view of the area is this little tower which is easy to climb and even better for taking pictures.

Again, my cell phone camera isn't really great to show off any bird close ups, but you can still see the many birds that can be spotted here.

This is the best I could manage - some swans, geese, seagulls, ducks... Apparently, there are also others such as green legs, bekassins and shore snipes, ralls, birds of prey and river powns. There are quite a few little islands on which the birds can breed without worrying about any predators. Although I assume the competition for the best spots would be quite high.

Another perspective of the thick undergrowth of reed with many smaller lakes sprinkled around the area.
