The prayer ritual

I started attending church at an early age due to my parents’ lifestyle, and among the many things I have learned and welcomed into my life, prayer is one of them that has become a ritual for me. I grew up learning that prayer is basically talking to God just like the way we talk to our earthly parents. So, I adopted it into my life because I want to talk to God always and also want Him to help me in all ramifications.

Every day, I make sure I communicate with God, committing everything I will be doing that day into His hands. This makes me feel safe, secure, and positive for the day ahead. Being very honest, it may be that God does not hear me always or answer my prayers every time I pray to Him, but I do not care. I simply go on with the confidence that God has heard me once I am done praying, and that is exactly what we are taught to believe, and that is faith. When we pray, we are encouraged to believe that God has heard us, and we should not bother too much about it afterward.

My prayer ritual is usually done in the morning whenever I wake up. It is a mandatory thing for me to thank my God for waking me up from slumber, thank Him for all He did the previous day, and also go ahead to beg for forgiveness of my sins, commit my day into His hands, and tell Him about my heart’s desires.

There have been a few days when I went through the whole day without first doing my prayer rituals in the morning, mostly because I was called out very early to attend to something. Since I am used to making my prayers at home before leaving the house, I found it very hard to pray while walking or on top of a motorcycle, even though people say that one can pray anywhere and everywhere. Throughout such days, my conscience kept judging me for leaving the house without praying. Nothing bad happened on those days, but my mind was not at rest all through.
