Mastering a skill

It is no longer news that needs to be shared every day as an admonition for young people to get into skills and crafts, even while juggling their academic lives. Having a skill these days has become one of the sure ways to scale through in the harsh economic situation the world is currently facing.

Having a skill is very necessary in this modern world, especially in Africa where I live. One can decide to live independently without having to wait for or depend on the government to provide a job just to put food on the table. Skills or crafts, as the case may be, can elevate someone into a position they never imagined, into a realm far above those who rely only on academic qualifications. This is not an exaggeration, because I have seen many people who transformed their lives for the better by mastering a skill. I know a junior schoolmate who went on to learn and master the medical field of pharmacy. He didn't proceed to school, he only learnt that and he has established himself far more than most of us that pursued school only.

I know it's not too late to learn a skill but I find it unfortunate to not go into any skill earlier especially when I was in the last phase of my academics. But it's not too late to get into one and I have one in mind to learn very soon. It's just that I'm still procrastinating.

Apart from the money that comes from mastering and using a skill, there's also the joy that comes with it especially when it's something that one loves. As for me, I cannot see myself committing to mastering any skill that I have no passion for, because I know I would struggle all through the process.
