A lie followed...

During my schooling days, I had some habits I planned to take on to improve my academics, but they never came to pass. I also told myself some lies, but along the line, they became real lies and even bigger than reality itself.

This is very common in the life of a student and even in the life of everyone living. Sometimes we set goals which we intend to work with, but along the line, the bridges just break and everything falls apart. The same thing applies to how we promise ourselves something that is bigger than us, yet those promises never come to pass.

Never to sort a course in school:

My school and the department I passed through were very tough and spoiled, since sorting courses was something very rampant. When I got into school, I promised myself never to bribe my way with money to get good marks or to pass a course. I was surviving with that mindset until 300 level, when things became more difficult and more real.

Most of the lecturers who took us that year were deeply involved in bribery, to the extent that it was almost impossible to pass their courses without bribing your way through. When the situation became more frightening for me, I decided to join the league of my friends and paid ₦7,000 to a lecturer in order not to get a carryover.

The promise I made to myself was broken, and it became a lie I told myself when I went on to sort one more course after the first one. This happened even when I had chances of passing the course, because the lecturer was not as wicked as the first one.

My friends laughed at me over how I could not keep to my own terms. They knew how delicate the situation was, but they did not cease using my action as a source of jokes.
