This is a semi-regular series that I will run on Fridays to hold discussions on a current topic from the week gone. The aim is to keep them light and conversational, though some might be heavier - regardless of the content topic itself though, just have some fun engaging and discussing with whoever happens to put in the effort in the comments section below.

We Talk Friday Ep. 65: Do You Feel It?

A slightly different WTF tonight, since I just got back from the Eppu Normaali concert and there are a few observations I had that might be fun to comment on. We were right up the front, because we were there when they opened the gates, three hours before the start time, so the pictures are okay. I won't add too many images here, but from the couple from the band, you can see that they are getting on a bit with all of them around 70 years of age. Yet, they rocked it - playing two long sets and an encore. Seeing them again made me wish I understood more.

But onto some observations from the day.

1. Wave me Goodbye

Toward the end of the gig they played a couple slower songs of the kind where people get their phone torches out and wave them around in the air. However, even though the singer was waving his arm slowly and everyone was moving in unison.... Or should I say, "almost everyone" was moving in unison, because there were a couple women I noticed (not obviously drunk) that just couldn't keep time. Like, not even close.

Is it so hard?

2. Go Drink Yourself

With two songs left in the first set, some big-ass drunk guy pushed through the crowd and came and stood next to my wife, who was half a step in front. Surprisingly, there weren't too many very drunk people tonight, but he was swaying and slurring and was looking at my wife, while I was looking at him. I could see the dumb-ass cogs turning in his head and a couple times he came close to touching her, which no matter his size, would have been a mistake. But, he was able to catch himself before he completed the move. If he had touched my wife, it wouldn't have ended well for anyone.

At the break, my wife and her brother-in-law went off to the toilet and I held our positions. The drunk guy who had left, soon came back, as did about a million other people who used the opportunity to steal a spot at the front. The drunk guy started speaking to me and being a dick about a foreigner being at the front of the gig and then how women like big men.

My wife came back - he looked at her - and he moved away.

I don't mind drinking and drunk people - but it is not an excuse for dickbaggery.

3. One Thing I Like

It always amazes me how Finnish music crosses so many generations. It is like no matter the age, everyone in Finland knows every Finnish song that has been released since 1975. The crowd was full of young people and a lot of old people, all singing along. But it isn't just because this band is popular and "iconic" in the Finnish sense, they really know everything. As we were walking out of the stadium, a bar nearby had open Karaoke and someone was singing (poorly) another old song from a totally different type of band, and thousands of people walking started singing that too. It isn't genre dependent - they just really get into old Finnish music.

4. Festival Food

I am not going to speak about it....

Food aside...

It was a decent night of music and I hope I am able to jump around like that in 20 years from now. I am sore from just standing....
