Weekend Experiences - Preparing for the Big Storm Coming - by Sunscape

Yesterday we got another round of snow that covered the landscape making it another beautiful winter wonderland. Starting this afternoon, they are predicting a massive amount of snow to fall by Monday morning in our area. We don't normally get too concerned with the news about the weather, but when they predict high winds with over 1 1/2 foot of snow, it's time to prepare.

At least we somehow avoided the deep-freezing temperatures that they thought would happen. Wind chills do make it feel colder, but our temps are hovering around 8F. during the day.

The backyard looks so pretty with the snow blanketing all the trees and shrubs. Even the birds are not flying around too much and I have only seen them at the feeders once during the day. Usually, they are there at least three times.

Hubby shoveled a path out to the birdfeeder and filled it up before the storm hits. He also brought a few bins of wood into the garage for easy access in case we need to use the fireplace for extra heat.

Then he went to the Tractor Supply store and bought two more gas cans and filled those up in case we need to run the generator again. If we don't need it over the winter, he will use it for the lawn tractor. At least he feels prepared and that's all that matters.

This is the view from my kitchen window while I was cooking. The winds were gusting over 40 mph and creating whiteouts everywhere. Apparently, driving was very difficult all day and there were many accidents on the interstate.

I had my husband make a quick run to pick up a prescription and grab a few staples while he was out. With full freezers and pantry shelves, we are in good shape, I just needed a few dairy items and turkey for Mika.

With the wind and cold temps, we have been keeping the shades and curtains closed up. With all the new windows put in last May, I don't know if we need to do so, but it's a habit that we got into over the years to keep the house warmer. Do any of you do the same? I will be interested to see the winter energy bills compared to last year. I'm believing for lower bills this year.

The netting surrounding the back yard looks so interesting catching the snow in all the squares. I will be back with an update on the storm, stay warm and safe everyone.
