Snow Overload - Seed Starting - Comfy Cozy - by Sunscape

This is the backyard before more snow fell overnight. We have passed the 12" mark, and they say we could still get more snow.

I tried to capture the snow crystals glistening with the sunshine, but they just don't show up with my phone camera.

At least the temps during the day are staying above 10°F. But at night they dip below, especially with the wind.

Here is the backyard when the wind picks up. It really makes it look frigid, doesn't it?

When I went onto the back porch to take these photos, a woodpecker was hanging on the suet cake cage and chirping. They had gone through the whole cake in two days, so Mika and I went out to refill it. She is supervising the whole scenario.

Seed Sowing

At least there is plenty to accomplish inside. I finally started the onion seeds this past week.

It was time for me to get the onions started so that they are large enough to plant out in the raised beds mid-March.

I'm all set up to fill a few trays and get the seeds planted.

I did the Spanish onions and then the Walla Walla but decided not to do the Leeks yet.

I still had to wait for another seed order to arrive. They came three days later so now I can sow the red onions sometime this week.

The trays are under lights, and it only took 5 days for the Walla Walla to sprout, then two days later the Spanish onions started to pop up.

They are just peeking their little necks up and it's so exciting to be working with the plants again.

Later that afternoon, I started watching some You tube and Mika sat right there in front of the tv intrigued by the woman teaching about seed starting.

She watched her for quite some time before she came up into my lap for her snuggle time.

I just adore our little girl and our lap time together every afternoon. Well, that's it for today, I have to check my seed starting dates and get organized before I forget what needs an early start. Stay warm and safe everyone.
