First Snowfall and Decorating the Tree - by Sunscape
Yes, it finally arrived, our first snow for the season. The leaves are still falling off the trees but now they are covered in wet, white fluff. The snow was fluffy, then sleet, then heavy wet snow. The roads got pretty slick and I had to be careful driving to the supermarket.
I guess I better put on some boots and close the windows on the greenhouse. I have my strawberry tower in there to hopefully keep them alive over the winter.
Flocked Christmas Tree
I decided to get the family room tree up since I have family arriving for Thanksgiving from Virginia. That is the week I usually decorate the house, but with them here it wouldn't happen until the following week.
This year I chose to do mostly red and white throughout the house. I purchased some new ribbon, and berry branches this year.
It is simple and not too overdone this year. I typically load my trees with a lot of ornaments. I have bins organized by colors because I like to switch up themes from year to year. Last year was gold and white with a little silver. Kinda glam-like.
I put the little critters on the tree, some hand painted pinecones from the trees out back, and then added the red ornaments to finish it off.
It turned out nice even though I only used two colors this year. This tree has a switch that changes the color of the lights. I love warm white lights, and my husband likes the colored ones. So, we alternate every night so we both get to enjoy our favorite.
The tree even looks nice in the daytime with the light coming through the window. Putting up the tree took me most of the morning, then I had to take a break as my back started aching from climbing up and down the step ladder. The tree is 7' tall and I can't reach the top without it. Not to mention, those sections of the tree are very heavy to lift. But I managed to do so by myself, hubby was out for the day with his family, and I was left unsupervised, lol!
Fireplace Swag
The following day, I worked on the three swags for the family room. I followed the same theme with the swag above the fireplace.
The largest swag goes on the entry to the family room, and it too is wired with both white and colored lights.
Second Garland
Mika was naughty while I was decorating the swags and kept trying to steal branches and pinecones. I guess she just wanted to assist. ;-)
I had three large ribbons from another year and used those for the corners and the middle of the swag. I adore the little snowmen on the ribbon.
Third Garland
This one sits on the ledge behind the couch, and I took down the large picture and put up the twig wreath to finish off the look.
Now, that the family room is decorated, I can focus on the main floor and get the second tree up. That my friends will take me two - three days at least. That will be another post so stay tuned.
